The Fighting Cantaloupe cruised to their third straight win last Wednesday, handily dispatching of The Barndogs taking them down by a score of 54-36. Coach O’Neill commented after the game that he felt this one was in hand early on with the Cantaloupe being up as many as 18 in the opening minutes. Tim came out swinging and Ryan was sinking everything he looked at giving Pendry PTSD from the Barndogs last matchup with the Cantaloupe. The Barndogs were able to cut into the lead a bit thanks to a heroic performance from former Cantaloupe now Barndog Joey Barcelone who finished somewhere north of 20 points, but despite his best efforts, this one was a blowout start to finish.

Tim led the charge with 14 pts, 4 asts, and 4 rebs while the Welsh bro’s were raining in jump shots all night. Ryan led the team in points (15) and rebounds (7) while also dishing out a couple of assists and Nick had a big second half finishing with 14 pts, 1 ast, and 2 rebs. Andrew Torney also notched his first points of the young season sinking in a three pointer as his first basket back with the team. While fans were disappointed the Barndogs failed to fan the flames of a new rivalry, we were still treated to another installment of perhaps the oldest rivalry in Cantaloupe history. Yes, the grudge that spans well over a decade was on full display as Chris fouled out of yet another game being refereed by ‘Stache, this time not even making it out of the first half before being sat down for the remainder of the game. While the two appeared to have squashed their beef last season, it seems there is still no love lost between the longtime rivals.

Week 4 action is set to tip off tonight @ 7:30 pm as the Fighting Cantaloupe will take on win or Booze who come into this one off of their first loss of the Fall campaign. Despite losing by 15 in their last matchup, Win or Booze put up 60+ in each of their first two games and should be quite the challenge for what will be a short handed Cantaloupe team as both Lou and Pondo are out for this one. Week 4’s matchup will also mark Trevor Markovich’s last regular season appearance as Ryan Deal will take over the roster spot for the last 4 games so expect a packed Fruit Basket tonight to show their respect for the longtime Cantaloupe vet.
