Cantaloupe Grind Out Week 3 Win

The Cantaloupe took on the 0-2 Boards Patrol in a back and forth week 3 matchup that saw The Fighting Cantaloupe pick up their second win of the Winter with a solid 50-40 victory. A gritty game start to finish that even saw Coach O’Neill getting into a brief shouting match with the opposition, naturally alongside the usual suspect Chris who was arguing with Boards Patrol players throughout the game. The lead changed hands a few times in the first half with the Cantaloupe managing to build a narrow lead heading into halftime and boy were Cantaloupe fans letting the other team hear it. Some not so subtle trash talk rained down on Boards Patrol nearly every possession, and dare I say, it did play a factor. Joey B continued to impress, helping keep the offense flowing early, knocking down some nice mid range jumpers but the bulk of the offense came on the back of another big night from Ryan Welsh.

Showing off the full bag of tricks, Welsh came out cooking in the second half, knocking down jumpers, getting to the rim, converting most of his free throws and even playing some tough defense en route to a 26 point, 4 rebound, 4 steal performance. However, with Joey B being the teams next leading scorer with just 8 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds the game stayed tight late into the second half. With the outcome still in question down the stretch, enter Tim. Schannauer took over in the closing minutes grabbing some big boards and finishing some tough takes to put the final nails in the coffin. Tim would finish with 6 points and 6 rebounds, but speaking of boards, it would be remiss of us not to shoutout Torney who continued assert his presence in the paint with a team high 10 rebounds. Other notables from the game were Lou and Ryan D turning in some well rounded performances, Lou finishing with 4 points, 3 Rebounds, Deal with 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Cantaloupe are going to need to bring their A-game this week if they have any plans of starting a win streak as they take on (3-0) This Team who come into this one averaging 67 points a game. Be sure to grab your popcorn for this Week 3 prime time matchup, tip off is set for 8:45pm.
