Cantaloupe on the Bubble Heading into Final Week of Regular Season

Well, there’s really not much to say about last weeks loss. Jeff continued to haunt his former team, now averaging 20+ in every game against the Cantaloupe as they fell to the Sellers 64-42 last Wednesday. Ryan Welsh continued to be the teams only consistent source of offense, finishing with 23 points and 4 rebounds while Ryan Deal and Chris were the second leading scorers with 5 a piece. Despite what the box score may lead you to believe, the two teams were separated by just a few points until late in the second half. However, when the clock hit the 5 minute mark, it was like a switch had been flipped. The Cantaloupe offense shut down almost entirely, scoring just two points the rest of the game while the Sellers managed to run up the score, leaving no doubt who would take home the win.
Though the numbers aren’t inspiring at a glance, there is perhaps more too it. Tim, the teams second leading scorer on the year rolled his ankle pretty badly in pregame warmups and though it wasn’t enough to keep him out of the game, it was clearly limiting his movement. As for Ryan Deal, he would have given his single game assist record that he set last week another run had the Cantaloupe not dropped multiple passes that would have led to easy looks. Last we have Chris’ 5 point night which, while not great, was far and away his best offensive performance of the season more than doubling his point total for the year. Hopefully indicative of things to come as the Cantaloupe now find themselves in an immensely important week 8 matchup against the longtime rival Hunt Club Ballers.
The Cantaloupe have never lost to Hunt Club, but the team hasn’t seemed to find their rhythm all year and the Ballers are in the midst of one of their best seasons to date. Currently sitting with a record of 6-1, Hunt Club are one of 6 teams to have already punched their playoff tickets while the Cantaloupe find themselves on the bubble heading into the final week of the regular season. Coming in at 4-3 the Cantaloupe currently find themselves tied with the Sellers and Washed CYB Athletes record wise while sitting just one game ahead of Pippen Ain’t Easy, Splash Family, and The Last Dance who all have records of 3-4. The Sellers look to be in as they’ll take on the 0-7 Akatsuki in week 8, but CYB, the Splash Family, and The Last Dance all have tough matchups against Rated PG-13 (6-1), This Team (6-1), and Nothing but Net (7-0). Even so, a win for the 9th seeded cantaloupe would be huge as it’d guarantee their spot and plus, it always feels good taking down your rival. Be sure to tune in Wednesday night as the Cantaloupe look to end their regular season in style with a win in the years most highly anticipated matchup. Tip-off is set for 9pm on the main stage @ Total Turf Court #1.
