Cantaloupe Pick Up Dominant Week 3 Win

Well, there’s really no sugarcoating it, the Fighting Cantaloupe laid waste to the Rangers in a week 3 matchup that was anything but competitive last Tuesday. Mikey G got off to a hot start doing most of the scoring through the first 10 minutes, and once the Cantaloupe had the Rangers against the ropes, there was no going back. The Cantaloupe had easy looks all night while the Rangers didn’t get on the board until there was just 4:00 remaining in the first half by way of a free throw. If that doesn’t sum up the night, then I don’t know what does as the Cantaloupe easily closed this one out in the second half, winning by a score of 64-19.

With no real tension to speak of throughout the game, let’s move right into the stats. We already hinted at Mikey G’s big night so we’ll start there. Scoring 15 of the team's first 20, he would finish with a team-high 17 points and 5 rebounds while going 8-10 from the floor. Nick, while mostly uninterested in the matchup, still followed up his big week 2 performance with another nice night also dropping 17 points with 6 rebounds to boot. From there the Cantaloupe really spread the love, giving every active player a chance to get on the board. Ryan Deal and Joey B both finished with 7 points and 3 steals, Deal adding in 3 assists, and Joey also with an assist and a rebound. Kev had a nice night with 6 points, 5 boards, an assist, and a steal while John P and Merril both had 4 a piece. Palumbo continued to show his ability to run the offense dishing out 4 assists, snatching 2 rebounds, and a steal to go with, while Merril continued to be a beast in the paint bringing down 6 boards of his own. Last but never least were Sean and Chris, both finishing with 3 points. Chris tacked on 5 boards, an assist, and a steal, and Sean added 2 rebounds as well.

It may not have been the hardest-fought win, but the boys are rolling into Week 4 as they look to stay above .500 to close out the first half of the season. The ‘loupe have a tough task ahead of them though as they’ll take on the undefeated Strictly Buckets who enter this week averaging just over 62 ppg. Daunting numbers at a glance, however, their last three opponents are currently a combined 2-7 so take that as you will. Week 4 action is set to tip off Tuesday night @ 9:30 pm, Total Turf Court #5.
