Cantaloupe Win Streak Comes to a Screeching Halt

If you didn’t make it out to the game last week- well, you didn’t miss much. The short-handed Cantaloupe gave a fairly uninspired performance as they took on the 2-seeded Too Tuff, with an active roster size of just 6 players. Nick, Kev, and Tyler all unavailable, the Cantaloupe simply didn’t have the manpower to slow down the defending champs getting routed in this one 86-57. However, being the optimistic beat writer I am, there were a couple of takeaways. Mikey G continued his promising start to the year with another big game, just two rebounds shy of a double-double. Mikey finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Lou also turned in his first big offensive performance of the year dropping 16 points and bringing down 5 boards of his own.

Other than that, Ryan had 17 and 4 on 6/18 shooting, Connor had 3 pts, 3 ast, and 2 reb, and the Butler boys combined for 6 pts, 3 ast, and 11 reb. Unfortunate considering nobody had a particularly bad night but hey, sometimes the odds just aren’t in your favor. The Cantaloupe won’t have any excuses tonight though as the team is back at full strength for their week 4 matchup against Big Al’s Ballers. After dropping their first two games of the season, Big Al and his Ballers come into this one fresh off their first win of the Spring as they took down the Lost World Ballers 42-38 in week 3. Big Al’s squad enters week 4 averaging a modest 46 ppg, a full 7 points less than the Cantaloupe's current average of 53.

As the Cantaloupe look to stay above .500 heading into the halfway point of the season, let’s see how the rest of the league is stacking up.

Currently, at the top of the standings, only two undefeated teams remain. The 4-0 Winded Warriors; who have already picked up dramatic single-digit wins in weeks 1-3, including a 1 point win in week 2 and a 3 point win in week 3 before annihilating Coulda Been Pro 74-38 for their fourth win, and the 3-0 Hunt Club Ballers. The Hunt Club, currently averaging 62 ppg, look to keep pace with the Warriors tonight as they prepare for their tip off against the 2-1 Ballers @ 6:30.

After that, the Hornets and Too Tuff are tied in the standings each with a record of 3-1, followed by The Big Shermans, the Ballers, and of course the Cantaloupe all currently with records of 2-1. From there, the Hold ‘Em Hillbillies are the sole .500 team at 2-2, trailed by Derek Hits 3s, Big Al’s Ballers, and Coulda Been Pro all with just one win. Out of Shape All-Stars, Lost World Ballers, and the Free Agent team all round out the bottom of the standings as they are still in search of their first win.

The Fighting Cantaloupe are set to tip-off for week 4 action tonight @ 7:30 on court 1. As always, we look forward to seeing a filled fruit basket!
