The Revenge Tour continued last night in front of a sold-out Total Turf crowd as the undefeated season rolls on. Yes, the Fruit Basket was rocking as the Cantaloupe picked up their third straight win, taking down Lou Sassel 60-44, and you’ve got to be feeling good about this one if you’re a Cantaloupe fan. With player coach Sean O’Neill officially being ruled out for the remainder of the season, along with Pondo and Tyler White both being unavailable, it was all hands on deck for week 3.
Luckily, the ‘loupe were off and running from the opening tip in this one up nearly 20 at one point, they ended the first half up 10. In light of O’Neill’s injury, Ryan Deal’s 10-day contract was extended for the rest of the year, and what better way to celebrate than shooting 100% from 3, including a huge one to break the teams cold streak early in the second half, swinging the momentum back for the rest of the game. Deal, who finished with 11 pts 3 rbs and 3 ast was one of four Cantaloupe to finish in double digits last night as Lou finished with 10 pts 3 rbs and 2 ast, while the Welsh brothers both notched 15 pts a piece, Ryan also adding 3 rbs and 2 ast, Nick with 4 rbs and 3 ast. The Welsh bro’s weren’t just filling it up on the offensive end though, yes defense was the name of the game in this one folks. Nick and Ryan led the way with 4 steals a piece in route to a team total 13 steals on the night. Active hands wouldn’t be enough to win this one though as Pondo’s absence in the paint was noticeable, but luckily Kevin Broecker answered the call absolutely cleaning up the glass and setting the tone in the paint with a team high 8 rebounds, along with Anthony Butler not far behind hauling in 6 boards of his own.
Despite the team still getting healthy, they seem to be finding their rhythm as they head into a week 4 matchup against the Trash Pandas. The Pandas will be looking to pick up their first win as they enter this one 0-3, dropping their last game against Team Washed up 41-23. Pondo looks to be the only player other than O’Neill on the injured list this week, currently questionable with an eye injury though it looks like barring any setbacks, he should be ready to suite up. Week 4 action is scheduled for Wednesday July 21st @ 9pm, Total Turf court #2.
